Boehner exits, Paul Ryan elected new Speaker of the House

John Boehner officially stepped down from his role as Speaker of the House on Thursday. He announced his resignation from the post and his congressional seat last month. As the Ohio Republican said farewell to the House, a body that he has led since 2011, he acknowledged a volunteer from one of his campaigns long ago…then Miami (OH) student Paul Ryan.

Ryan went on to become a congressman from the state of Wisconsin and the 2012 Republican Vice-Presidential nominee. Today, he was elected as Boehner’s replacement…the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. (jj)
