City investigating employees’ use of govt email on Ashley Madison site
Columbus Mayor Mike Coleman, already dealing with problems of his own including an FBI investigation, confirmed that the city is looking into whether or not government employees used their City of Columbus email accounts in conjunction with memberships to the Ashley Madison website.
Ashley Madison is a dot com that matches up husbands and wives with other husbands and wives looking to have extramarital affairs.
A recent hacking made vulnerable millions of site members who would normally keep their identities and personal information secret. Some of this information has now been released to the public. Member email addresses are among the now public data. At least five City of Columbus email addresses are reportedly registered to the website.
It’s unclear what punishment, if any, would be faced by employees found having used their government email addresses in signing up for Ashley Madison accounts. (jj)
