Cleanup deadline set for recycling plant fire

The four-alarm fire that broke out on May 1st, after smoking materials from employees were improperly thrown away, is approaching its cleanup deadline. After a meeting with city officials, Phoenix Recycling Plant now has 60 days to get all the (solid) waste off the property. The plant will work with the EPA to identity debris and have it send off for proper disposal.

Steve Dunbar, the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Columbus, and his office are also submitting new filings against the plant – so that the cleanup process will continue moving forward. Phoenix Recycling also has an additional 90 days to demolish buildings that inspectors deemed unsafe.
