*UPDATE* DNC Chair visits Columbus ahead of convention decision

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz led a small delegation on a mostly-private visit to Columbus on Monday.  The city is a finalist (along with Philadelphia and Brooklyn) to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention. Mayor Michael Coleman was one of those who helped in leading the group’s tour which included testing walking distances between Nationwide Arena and the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The visit also included a driving tour that allowed the delegation to once again see development along the riverfront and the locations of various attractions. About two dozen members of the arts, hospitality, business, labor and government sectors met with the group for a brief lunch event. A decision on the host city for the 2016 convention is expected within the next several weeks.  (jj)

1/23 5:45pm – DNC Chair plans Monday visit, will just miss our downtown tubing slide

As the Democratic National Committee continues to consider its choice for host city of the 2016 national convention, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz apparently wants to check out Columbus for herself. Columbus is contending with Philadelphia and Brooklyn. No word on who Schultz will be meeting with or what might be on the agenda for her Monday visit.  Similar trips are planned to the other finalist cities. The DNC did announce on Friday that the convention will be held the week of July 25th. The winning city will be announced within the next few weeks.

*Side note, if Schultz’ secret agenda includes taking a trip down the slide at All-Star Winter Park, she will be saddened to learn that she has mistimed her trip by one day. Sorry, Debbie.  (jj)
