This Monday is shaping up to be “day everything becomes law.” The latest legal news comes from a new state law, that effective today, allows hunters to use suppressors on guns. There are also some other gun changes under the new law (House Bill 234):
- Ohioans can buy rifles, shotguns, and ammunition from any state
- (more) intensive background check for concealed-carry permits
- training for such a permit dropped from 12 to 8 hrs
- some training can also be done online
- concealed-carry permits issued from other states are valid in Ohio
- definition of “automatic” weapon changed*
Several groups don’t think the new laws are comprehensive enough, but the bill’s supporters say that the changes are steps toward better gun control legislation. (deb)
*former definition: gun capable of firing 31 cartridges without reloading. New definition doesn’t reference a specific number of magazine shots
