Stone Brewing answers: Why not (Columb)us?
Cburs were campaigning hard last year, when Stone Brewing Co. announced that is was looking at opening a new spot; and Columbus got even more crafty with its campaign once the brewery put the city in the final three. But, ultimately Richmond, VA won and Columbus was left to drown its sorrows in other craft beers. But, if the city has been waiting for Stone Brewing to explain themselves, then they’re in luck. In an interview last week, COO Pat Tiernan clarified that Columbus didn’t do anything wrong; they just felt like they could work (better) with Richmond.
Tiernan went on to say in a statement:
[su_quote] We hold in the highest regard the work the city, state, citizens and fans in the great city of Columbus brought forth in our evaluation process, and exclaimed as much in my presentation … In fact, I gave specific examples of the stellar work of Columbus in my presentation, and I am currently assisting other breweries to engage with these same officials in Columbus. We made some very good friends in Columbus, and we have many good friends in craft brewing. It’s always a pleasure to be able to introduce respected friends to each other for no other reason to know that you’re introducing good people to each other, and that something good might just come out of it. Oh, and that “other brewery” is probably Scottish brewers BrewDog, who recently started looking into a North American operation. (deb)
