Kasich climbing in polls

After last week’s formal announcement, new GOP presidential candidate John Kasich seems to be making an early positive impression with voters. In the 16 candidate field, a new Monmouth University poll shows the Ohio governor is tied for third place in the early state of New Hampshire.

  • Donald Trump (24%)
  • Jeb Bush 12%
  • John Kasich (7%)
  • Scott Walker (7%)
  • Marco Rubio (6%)
  • Ben Carson (5%)
  • Rand Paul (5%)
  • Chris Christie (4%)
  • Carly Fiorina (3%)
  • Ted Cruz (3%)
  • Mike Huckabee 2%
  • Bobby Jindal 2%
  • George Pataki 2%

All other candidates received less than 1% support in the survey.

This follows on the heels of an NBC News / Marist poll this week that showed Kasich in 4th place.

In the latest CNN / ORC national poll, Kasich places eighth with 4%, tied with Chris Christie and Ben Carson. Donald Trump leads in this poll as well (18%), followed by Jeb Bush (15%) and Scott Walker (10%).  (jj)
