With Graham out of the race, Kasich hopes for McCain support

Screen Shot 2015-12-22 at 11.01.05 AMThis week saw the end of the line for (now former) Republican presidential candidate Lindsey Graham.  While many in the field of 2016 GOP candidates have had their moments of success in the polls…Donald Trump, Ben Carson and to a lesser extent Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Carly Fiorina and John Kasich…Graham never climbed into the conversation. And he never made it into one of the highly-viewed prime time debates. The South Carolina Senator’s disappointing results came despite the backing of his longtime friend Senator John McCain.

With Graham having dropped out, Kasich is hoping to earn the backing of McCain (the 2008 Republican nominee). Kasich’s team has already announced the support of a number of people who had backed Graham and the Ohio governor says that he’s already put in a call to the Arizona Senator.

It’s interesting to note that when McCain was running against George W Bush for the 2000 nomination…when Kasich ended his own short-lived campaign, he backed Bush over McCain. So if he hopes to get the Senator’s endorsement now, he may have a few fences to mend.
