The Columbus Recreation and Parks Department is advising visitors to German Village’s Schiller Park to keep their pets away from the pond. Notices have gone up telling dog owners about an issue with the water. Recent testing has detected increased levels of toxic algae. Officials say that the likely culprit is droppings from waterfowl. (Krumm Park in East Columbus is dealing with a similar issue and warnings have been posted there as well.)
The department says that they are working on a plan to deal with the algae. In the meantime, they’re pleased about the turn to some cooler temperatures as that will help to kill off the problem. (jj)
