Columbus named “Intelligent Community of the Year”
Intelligent Community of the Year. That’s us.
Three times before, Columbus has been named as a finalist for the distinction by the Intelligent Community Forum, a think tank that examines economic and social development in the communities of the world. This year’s finalists included:
- Arlington County, Va.
- Ipswich, Queensland, Australia
- New Taipei, Taiwan
- Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
But it was Columbus that earned the distinction.
“Columbus clearly demonstrated that planning and performance have made it a place with ‘an inner go.’ It is a revolutionary community in the truest sense. Mayor Michael Coleman and the citizens of that great town are leading Ohio, the USA and the Intelligent Community movement from an industrial economy to a knowledge-based one.”
-ICF co-founder Lou Zacharilla
Mayor Mike Coleman accepted the award:
We are an innovative and progressive city that believes in collaborative efforts and we are thankful for this great honor.
