Adoption for rescued puppies on hold
Earlier this month, the Licking County Humane Society rescued 62 puppies after getting a report about loose dogs (along US 62). And with over a 100 pending adoption applications, the pups are sure to go to good homes. Once they’re well enough. Lori Carlson, Executive Director at the Licking County Humane Society, said that the puppies are alot sicker than they initially thought: six puppies have died, five from parvovirus and the other from a heart defect. It’ll probably be two more weeks before they can have the puppies available for adoption, as employees and volunteers have been working long (overtime) hours nursing them.
The one bright side? Carlson says they’ve received an abundance of supplies and monetary support from the community. “We have plenty of puppy pads, food and money to pay for vet bills and medication. The community has been outstanding,” said Carlson. (deb)

Humane Society rescues 62 puppies!
A response to a report about loose dogs on U.S. 62 in Licking County this morning led to the discovery of (coincidentally) 62 preciously adorable, mostly healthy puppies. The dogs were found on a property near the location of the earlier report. The director of the Licking County Humane Society says that someone was apparently trying to start their own rescue effort and obviously bit off more than they could chew…unable to handle that volume of pups. All of the dogs were surrendered to the Humane Society and are currently being evaluated and treated as necessary. They will be available for adoption soon. (jj)
