Mother and baby injured in shooting

According to Columbus police, a mother (Jazmen Pettigrew, 23) and her seven-week old  son (Mekhi Green-Pettigrew) were injured in a domestic dispute-related shooting. The shooting took place last night just before midnight and investigators reported that someone fired several shots into a car outside the Mt. Vernon Plaza town homes.

A mother (identified as Pettigrew), her baby, and a toddler where in the car. Pettigrew was shot in the arm and a bullet grazed the baby’s head. Pettigrew was taken to Grant Medical Center, was treated and released, whereas Mekhi was taken to Nationwide Children’s and is listed in stable condition. The toddler wasn’t injured and was given to family members.

Police don’t believe that Pettigrew and the children were the intended targets and are continuing to look for the male suspect. (deb)
