ODOT ditch-cleaning crews dumped trash into protected creek

Call it counter-productive and disgusting.

A report from the Ohio Office of the Inspector General finds that crews from the Ohio Department of Transportation, working on a ditch-cleaning effort in Ross County last year, dumped their collected garbage and spoiled soil over a guardrail and into a government-protected waterway below.

ODOT must pay $120,000 for the clean-up of Salt Creek (including a $35,000 fine). Three employees involved in the dumping of debris are currently under employment review.
