Ohio State takes steps to prevent sexual violence on campus
Vice-President Joe Biden comes to Columbus today to address the issue of sexual assaults on college campuses. Biden is expected to deliver his remarks at the Jesse Owens Recreation Center at Ohio State sometime after 5pm.
OSU is using the attention on the issue this week to announce a series of new initiatives aimed at curbing incidents of assault. Among the changes is the addition of required sexual violence awareness training. The instruction will be mandatory for all freshmen.
In a statement to the Associated Press, Ohio State elaborated on the need for such efforts:
“We are deeply concerned by sexual misconduct and relationship violence both at Ohio State and at institutions of higher learning across the nation. Campuses must be safe places to learn and grow.”
– Ohio State President Michael Drake
