Secret firefighter party damages closed Fulton Street station
A number of Columbus firefighters are finding themselves under investigation following an unauthorized and destructive party at a closed firehouse. Station 2 on East Fulton Street was recently closed with personnel and equipment moved to the new Station 3 on Greenlawn Avenue. The city’s fire chief says that some personnel have been at Station 2 removing things for use at other firehouses. But no one is to be at Station 2 without specific consent. It would appear that some firefighters didn’t get the memo.
It was discovered recently that some members of the station’s third unit threw an unauthorized kegs and eggs party at the now closed Station 2. Evidence shows that the shindig began in the morning and went through the day with booze and women. City workers later found discarded alcohol containers left behind from the unauthorized soirée. Broken windows and other damaged city property were also found at the scene.
The unit’s captain has since been removed from his post and sent to another station. The city chief says that the change was not because of any suspected wrongdoing on the part of Captain Larry Francisco, but in an effort to preserve the investigation’s integrity. (jj)
