Update: Man dies after jumping into Scioto to escape police
Update: NBC4 reports that a man in his mid-30s attempting to outrun a Columbus police officer near downtown on Thursday entered the Scioto River in hopes of hiding or escape. (The man reportedly had a few outstanding misdemeanor warrants.) Police say the man tried to get away from them in the same fashion last weekend…by getting into the river. This time, it met with tragic results.
When the suspect went beneath the water and failed to resurface, crews went in after him. He was brought from the river 45 minutes after he first went in. Alive, but in bad shape, he was rushed to Mt. Carmel West and passed away 90 minutes later. (jj)
