Ohio State president to be questioned in Jon Waters lawsuit

Ohio State University President Michael Drake is scheduled to be questioned next week by the attorney representing fired marching band director Jon Waters.

The university terminated Waters in July of 2014 saying that he had permitted a sexualized culture inside the band. Water has filed a federal lawsuit saying, among other things, that his firing was unjust, that OSU publicly tarnished his reputation and that his dismissal represented a case of gender discrimination. (A chunk of Waters’ case has been tossed out.)

In regards to the gender discrimination claim, the former director’s attorney will depose Drake and Chris Glaros next week. Glaros is an assistant vice-president in Ohio State’s Office of Compliance and Integrity. He put together the report that the university referred to when firing Waters.

Ohio State has denied the claims of the lawsuit.  (jj)
