Opinion: Columbus wooing Indy’s biggest convention?
Indiana has been in the news A LOT lately. And as someone who lived there for four years, it’s not surprising in the least that it’s getting all this news coverage for doing something “controversial” and frankly, super dumb. The state recently passed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which has left many (celebrities, citizens, you name it) to call for boycotts of the state. And one of the biggest voices speaking out against the bill: Gen Con.
For those not hip to the nerd scene, Gen Con is a gaming convention in Indianapolis that draws in over 50,000 people and $50 million in visitor spending. The con’s organizers have been very outspoken about their opposition to the bill and have suggested that they’ll consider moving to another city. And guess which city has their eye on Gen Con? If you guessed Columbus, then you win the golden ticket. The CEO of Experience Columbus, Brian Ross, said: “We do want Gen Con in Columbus. We would love to have them here.” (deb)
Question time: Do you think Gen Con should come to Columbus? And if not Gen Con, what other Indiana big-draws might take up residence in the Buckeye State? Let us know in the comments below↓↓↓
