Defining Skin is now open in Franklinton at 575 West Broad Street.

Thomas says that he’s been looking for a location to open a new shop and has checked out other areas. (The Short North, he says, is too expensive for many independent operations like his.) Franklinton seems like a good fit for him. He says that he’s excited about the redevelopment currently underway in the neighborhood and that he’s anxious to be a part of it.

At 2,400 square-feet, the new property provides much more space than he needs for six tattoo work stations. So he got to thinking about what to do with the extra space. Many tattoo shops also serve as art galleries and he didn’t want to go down that well-traveled road. He wanted to do something different.

Finally, it came to him to use that extra space for LIVE music. (There’s enough room for staging and sound equipment and an audience.) Mike views it as an opportunity to draw people into the area and generate some excitement. As part of its introduction to the neighborhood, Defining Skin will stage a grand opening party this Saturday night featuring comedy from Travis Hoewischer and music from Cadaver Dogs and The Up All Nights. Mikey’s Late Night Slice will be on-hand. All proceeds will go to the Volunteers of America and The Franklinton Arts District. The fun begins at 7pm.

Hours of operations for both Defining Skin locations:

Monday – Saturday:  Noon to 7pm

Sunday: By appointment only
