Energy Drink Addict on the run from authorities
The Columbus City Attorney’s office is asking that you be on the lookout for a man that they have dubbed….<get ready for it>….The Energy Drink Addict! Thirty year-old Corey Meadows is a South Side resident and authorities say that he has a thing for 5-Hour Energy drinks.
City Attorney Richard C. Pfeiffer Jr says that energy drinks have become a popular target among serial thieves in Columbus. And they sure are popular with Corey. He’s accused of going into a Meijer store on the city’s West Side in April and getting away with 64 cases of 5-Hour Energy. (That’s 480 bottles.) On Cinco de Mayo, investigators say that Meadows went to a Meijer on the northeast side of town and cleared a store shelf of 39 cases of the energy drink, dumping them into a cart and racing out of the store. When confronted by security, he abandoned the cart, hopped into a getaway car (a blue Ford Fiesta) and made his escape. And in one more Meijer case, Corey is accused grabbing and getting away with roughly 39 cases of 5-Hour Energy in Grove City. In all, we’re talking about nearly $1,600 worth of the energy beverage.
“Mr. Meadows has stolen 794 bottles of 5-Hour Energy—or the equivalent of 3970 hours of continuous, instant energy—that we can verify. He is either a cog in an organized theft ring or one seriously wired energy drink addict who hasn’t slept in months.”
