Google Express launches in Columbus

gesocialGoogle Express has expanded their same-day and overnight merchant delivery service to six Midwestern states today and that includes service to Columbus shoppers.

Customers register through the site for a Google Express membership and then receive free delivery on orders of $15 or more. Members make their purchases online and select a preferred delivery window. A driver shows up during that time frame with the goods and generally saves the customer a bunch of hassle.

New members can get their first three months free. After that, the service is $10 per month or $95 per year. (People who live in the same home can share a membership.)

Membership is not required. Non-members pay $4.99 for each store delivery totaling over $15.

That all sounds great, right, if there are stores involved that interest you. Presently, 16 retailers are connected with the service including Costco, Kohl’s, Staples, PetSmart, Walgreens and Barnes & Noble.

A similar local service (Whence) folded earlier this year. But Google Express clearly thinks that there is still a space in the market alongside the likes of the popular Amazon Prime.
