Sentencing in violent Hilltop case
*Update 5/21/15: Obryan Jones was sentenced today to 95 years in prison.
Previous: Guilty verdict in Hilltop kidnapping / torture case 5/19/15
In July of 2013, a group of three people (two men, one woman) went to a home on the Hilltop to return a stolen cellphone. They had hoped to trade the phone for drugs. Instead, they were taken capture by the five people inside the home.
In Franklin County Common Pleas court, the victims told a jury that they were held for hours by Obryan Jones and four accomplices. The female victim says that she was forced to perform oral sex. The men say that they were threatened with a circular saw held to their necks. Jones represented himself at trial. He claimed that witnesses lied. The jury bought none of his arguments and on Tuesday he was found guilty on all counts…17 charges in all including kidnapping, assault, robbery and rape. Of his accomplices, two perviously entered guilty pleas. One has been indicted, but is on the run. One accomplice has not been identified. (jj)
