Tiger cub succumbs to pneumonia
Warning: sad baby animal news. This morning, the Columbus Zoo reported that one of the three Amur tiger cubs born last month died. The cubs were being treated by an animal care team after the mother showed no interest in nursing them. They were also being treated for bacterial infections, but one of the cubs caught pneumonia and died. The other two cubs seem to be in good health. (deb)

Your morning cuteness break
A trio of (male) Amur tiger cubs were born at the Columbus Zoo early yesterday morning. The cubs are just 2.5lbs and are being handled by an animal care team; meaning they’re being hand reared after their mother didn’t show maternal care (like nursing them). Zoo President/CEO Tom Stalf says that they’re being cautious, but optimistic about the newborns. “But the cubs seem to be thriving under the 24-hour care provided by our animal specialists and veterinarians,” he said.
With the trio, the Zoo has 10 Amur tigers. And while Zoo visitors aren’t able to see the cubs just yet, once they get a little older and stronger, they’ll be out for visitation. But you can check out this ADORABLE photo. (deb)
