New Albany barn fire leaves 4 animals dead

Around 3:00 a.m. this morning, Plain and Jefferson Township firefighters responded to a barn fire on Hoover Rd. in New Albany. A few animals were inside the barn at the time, and while one dog escaped, two other dogs and two horses died in the fire.

Five fire companies worked together to put out the fire (which was tough, because water had to trucked in from another location). One firefighter was hospitalized for minor injuries. Officials are investigating the undetermined cause of the fire, but the barn’s owner did say he heard an explosion right be before he saw that the barn was on fire. (deb)
