New home for orphan baby gorilla at Columbus Zoo
Earlier this month, Kamina (a four-month-old gorilla) came to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium with the hope of finding a surrogate mother. After she was born this past August at the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden, her mother didn’t demonstrate signs of maternal care. So Kamina was moved to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden for surrogacy, but the Cincinnati Zoo’s gorillas didn’t show signs of bonding either. The Gorilla Species Survival Plan (SSP) made the recommendation to relocate her to the Columbus Zoo, a pioneer in gorilla surrogacy.
