Novel idea for new Hilliard library
A new Hilliard branch looks to be in the works for the Columbus Metropolitan Library system. The current 20,000 square-foot branch on Cemetery Road opened in 1996. By comparison, the proposed new branch near Davidson and Leap Roads would be more than three times that size. The building was originally constructed as part of a luxury assisted-living community, but the company behind that project went bankrupt. Under the idea being considered, Hilliard would purchase the building (valued at approximately $6 million). It would cost between $7 million and $9 million to customize it for library use. The city would then lease it to the library system for $1 / year with Columbus Metropolitan responsible for maintenance and additional upgrades. (jj)
