Pursuit of Kroger fuel points helps to nail crooked mailman

A former mail carrier has been sentenced to three years of probation for swiping credit cards and blank checks from customers on his route. In total, 67 year-old Arlie Ruff spent nearly $29,000 of his customer’s money during a six-year span from 2003-2009. Ruff apologized to the court on Thursday and blamed a gambling addiction for his crimes. This was the first time that Ruff, a military veteran, has been in trouble with the law, hence the leniency. The judge in the matter also ordered Ruff to make restitution to his victims.

Ruff was tracked down in part by investigators who linked his use of stolen credit cards at Kroger gas stations with his use of the supermarket’s Plus card.  (jj)
