Update: Authorities say that the wild turkey that had been harassing and attacking visitors to the University of Michigan campus has been captured. A trap had been set to catch the bird and, on Sunday, the fowl walked right into it. The turkey was not hurt and has already been relocated to a rescue facility.  (jj)

In its first real test of the year, the University of Michigan is going up against a fierce competitor…a wild turkey currently calling the shots on the Ann Arbor campus.

The bird is described as quite aggressive…chasing students and cornering others…and occasionally attempting to board city buses.  Campus police say that the bird hasn’t hurt anyone…yet. People are warned not to approach the bird. Officials began receiving reports about the turkey a month ago, but so far have been unsuccessful at capturing it. The eventual plan is to relocate the fowl campus visitor.

In the meantime, the bird is also causing havoc for drivers. It’s demonstrated a habit of walking out into traffic and laying in the middle of the street.

Analysts project that in a head-to-head matchup, the turkey would be a 6-point favorite over the Wolverines.  (jj)
