Zach Scott speaks out about Redflex scandal

Zach Scott  is not impressed with the city’s cancellation of its contract with the red light camera company Redflex.

Scott is the Franklin County sheriff and challenger to fellow Democrat Andrew Ginther in November’s mayoral election. Ginther’s name has been connected to bribery allegations in regards to the city’s deal with Redflex and Mayor Michael Coleman’s finances are being investigated in possible relation to the matter. Both have denied any wrongdoing. The city attorney recently revealed findings of an investigation into how Redflex got (and kept) their deal with the city and determined that everything was on the up and up. All the same, Mayor Coleman announced this week that the city was terminating the contract.

Scott believes that the contract and associated documents likely were in order, but that the question is one of bribery. The sheriff says that the city’s termination of the deal isn’t something of consequence. He calls the cancellation “fluff,” pointing out that the red light cameras have been off since March of this year. (jj)
