An Evening of Enlightenment at The Book Loft
With the weather so nice this week, it’s time to take advantage of opportunities to sit outside. This evening at 8 pm the Book Loft will host a Q & A session in their courtyard with Dr. Eric L. Johnson and Scott Woods.
This Q & A will be nothing short of reflective, as the two speakers are incredibly capable of said skill.
Woods, an experienced poet, has written Urban Contemporary History Month and We Over Here Now, among other smaller editing and writing works. He was the President of Poetry Slam Inc. and emcees the Writers’ Block Poetry Night, a weekly open mic series in Columbus, Ohio. Perhaps his most unique achievement was 2006 24-hr solo poetry reading, a feat he bested seven more times annually without ever repeating a poem.
Johnson, current Chief Consultant with Strategies to Succeed, has lead a life of incredible leadership as part of the United States Air Force Academy and director of the Urban Education program in the School of Education at Drake University.
This international man has travelled the world to speak on topics such as leadership development and team building, and has authored many books including A Journey to Be Better and Beyond Self Help.
Woods said he will be performing poetry and Johnson will be reflecting on his works. The two have known each other for decades and Woods said he’s excited to engage with each other and combine their audiences in a more intimate setting.
Guests can expect to experience dialogue that is “remarkably black,” as Woods put it, since the issues that will likely come up during the Q & A will have to do with racism and the racism in the elections. Woods also hopes to dissect, “the monolithic dialogue about black people and break away from the usual conversations.”
