First match for Ohio Roller Derby on March 19
The Ohio Roller Derby (formerly the Ohio Roller Girls) are hosting their first match of the 2016 season on March 19 at the Ohio Expo Center.
The female-dominated contact sport is a competition of speed, strategy and athleticism, according to the Ohio Roller Derby website.
Scoring is fast-paced, with team members divided into offensive “jammers” and defensive “blockers.” Jammers earn points by passing blockers legally and in-bounds.
And while there aren’t technical points for style, each team member has a nickname (like Kruel-Aid or The Smacktivist) and a certain level of freedom when it comes to her uniform, allowing for personalities to shine through.
Formed in 2005, the Ohio Roller Derby is entering its 11th season.
