The first love of former Ohio State footballer Nate Ebner was rugby, and now he gets to play on the world stage.
A Hilliard native, Ebner will join the USA Men’s Seven Rugby team in next month’s Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro.
Ebner grew up with rugby in his life, but was athletic enough to earn a walk-on spot on the Ohio State Buckeyes’ special teams.
After he graduated, he caught the eye of the New England Patriots, who picked him in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
Three years later, he shared a Super Bowl win with the Patriots.
Now Ebner, 27, will be the only current NFL player to play for the US Rugby team.
