The year is 1936, and tensions between Germany and the United States are beginning to heat up, not only politically, but socially as well.
With the Olympics being held in Berlin, the Americans have a chance to challenge Adolf Hitler’s theory of Aryan supremacy, and their key athlete is “Buckeye Bullet” Jesse Owens.
Such is the scene set by the new movie “Race,” which chronicles Owens’ trip to the Berlin Olympics after he has already established himself as an athlete at the collegiate level.
In addition to capturing Owens’ prowess at track and field, actor Stephen James gives a compelling performance when exploring the inner conflicts Owens has to face as a black man in Nazi Germany.
“Race” opens today, and is rated PG-13.
