Oh yeah: Petition for Macho Man Randy Savage statue surfaces
“Macho Man” Randy Savage (aka Randy Mario Poffo) was an athlete and wrestling icon of the 80’s alongside fellow superstar Hulk Hogan–that much is well-known.
But a lot of central Ohio residents forget that Mr. Savage is a native of Columbus.
However, if fellow Columbus resident Joe Chapman has anything to say about it, the Macho Man’s Columbus roots will never be forgotten.
Chapman started a petition asking Mayor Andrew Ginther to erect a statue of Savage in downtown Columbus, which has already been signed by 1,500 people in a matter of four days.
“Macho Man Randy Savage is known the world over as one of the world’s best Professional Wrestlers of all time,” Chapman writes. “During Savage’s 32 Year Pro Wrestling Career, he held over 20 championships, including the WWF and WCW World Heavy Weight title and is a WWE Hall of Famer. Randy Savage also wrestled in what most considered the best wrestling match of all time in front of 93,000 fans at Wrestlemania 3.”
That’s quite a resumé, you have to admit.
Do you think Columbus should immortalize Randy Savage in muscular, rock-hard bronze? You tell us!
