Columbus’s Teenage CEO Will Shop and Cook for You
Columbus thrives on the innovation and raw creativity of its young people, birthing new restaurants, businesses, and creative solutions every week.
One of its undiscovered gems, Food By Bel, is run, owned, and operated by one of the city’s youngest CEOs, Isabel Young, a Columbus native who started her health consulting business at just 17 years old.
“I’m always a little afraid to tell people that, because I’m afraid they won’t take me seriously,” but what Young doesn’t have in age, she makes up for in passion, dedication, and an eye for detail,” What I love about my business is that I get to know each of the clients really personally.”
Young isn’t your typical health nut — she’s more about good eats and healthy ingredients than she is about muscles and brawn. Her business is very personal, Young knows what her clients like to eat, what grocery stores they prefer to get their food from, even what time of the week they’re busiest.
And that’s exactly the kind of thinking her business is all about, good food and choice groceries delivered right to your fridge without you ever even having to think about it.
“It’s mostly the woman of the household that ends up contacting me, and says they need me,” said Young. She said she tends to target busy mothers who double up as professionals and want to spend less time grocery shopping and cooking and more time focusing on career and family.
So how exactly does it work? Because Isabel is a one-(wo)man-band, there’s no one else a client will be talking to. All they have to do is fill out one of the different forms on her website, and Isabel meets with the new client to determine what kind of diet they want to lead, when they want the food delivered, and what sort of prep needs to be done.
For Young’s grocery delivery service, she goes to your favorite grocery on your budget, buys all your favorite foods or the foods you and Young have determined will be good for your new diet, and takes them right to your house, preps them, and stores them in your fridge for easy access. For the professional that’s on a tight schedule, this service is a no brainer. It beats going to the grocery store when you’ve had 10 meetings in one day and everybody is fighting for that last gallon of milk and you literally cannot take it anymore. We’ve all been there.
Young also has two other services: a custom weekly meal plan based on your dietary/ food desire needs, and a chef service, where she cooks meals based on your specifications and then delivers them wherever you need. It’s especially nifty when you’re tired of eating microwavable burritos on your lunch break.
And she’s not here to take over the world, she just wants to make a positive impact and expand into something that can sustain her and her family, ” I want to have a ton of kids, I want to be ‘mom,’ that’s just what my heart wants.”
Young’s business model is a simple one, and it’s that kind of homespun, genuine attitude that makes her relationship with her clients so special. Healthy eating, real relationships, and a girl who knows what the hell she’s doing so that you don’t have to.
“I want to expand into something I can manage [while having] family, with employees that love and work as hard as I do right now,” said Young. So if you’re tired of counting calories, and just want to live a healthy lifestyle, eat what makes you feel happy and good, then call up Isabel, she’s got just thing.
