New Himalayan Grille promises twists on Indian cuisine

Gahanna’s Himalayan Grille is serving up a twist on traditional Indian cuisine, taking cues from Nepal and Tibet in addition to Northern India.

The restaurant is open today for its first day of business at 1307 Stoneridge Drive, serving a lunch buffet and specialty dishes.

When chef Rewati Kandel closed his restaurant in South Dakota, he came to Columbus to open Himalayan Grille with the help of a team of investors, all of whom were native to Tibet and Bhutan.

Included on the restaurant’s extensive menu are Indian classics like chicken tikka masala and lamb curry, and regional specialties like momo, a chicken dumpling stuffed with spices and vegetables, and ema datshi, a Bhutanese stew of chili peppers and cheese.

Most entrees are $12-$16, while the lunch buffet is $9.99 on weekdays and $12.99 on weekends.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for dinner Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Monday.
