Short North baristas to compete at U.S. Coffee Championships

Two baristas working at Short North coffee shop One Line Coffee have taken their brewing skills to the next level, and they’re showcasing them on the national stage.

Colleagues Sean Hundley and Mick Evans are travelling to Atlanta to compete in the U.S. Coffee Championships, where judges will evaluate not only the taste of their coffee, but also their knowledge of its origins and the performance aspect of brewing.

Of course, this is all done in exacting detail. Drop a half gram of grounds, and your score drops to zero in that category, according to Hundley.

Both men have invested heavily in the competition, buying special equipment and practicing for months on end to perfect their techniques.

Though they say an outright win would be unexpected, they’re excited to be representing Columbus and its growing coffee culture.
