Franklin County Workers Get a Pay Raise

Today Franklin County Commissioners voted to raise the pay of 126 workers in Franklin County to $13.69 per hour, what the commissioners said is the minimum living wage, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

The new wage amounts to $28,475 annually for a 40-hour work week and will cost taxpayers an additional $1.6 million a year.

Now before your eyebrows fly off your face, this new wage minimum was actually recommended to the Franklin County Commissioners by a consultant for a family of four, and the wage increase will help retain workers in the Department of Job and Family Services.

Commission President John O’Gray said to the Dispatch that some of the worker’s pay was so low that it qualified them for the services they distribute.

Before the increase, the pay for some workers under the commission was $12.50 for a total of $25,480 annually.
