GOP: Kasich might be the key to taking down Trump
Following Donald Trump’s massive Super Tuesday win, the establishment of the Republican party is wondering: “Just how are we going to take this guy down?”
Ohio Governor John Kasich may be the answer.
Though some GOP members have called for Kasich to drop out and let Florida Senator Marco Rubio take on Trump in a two man race, Rubio bungled Super Tuesday, winning only Minnesota, while Texas Senator Ted Cruz took his home state and Oklahoma.
Kasich contends that he still has hope in his home state of Ohio, which has a winner-take-all style of awarding delegates.
The jury is still out as to which way the election will go. At Trump’s rally in Columbus on Tuesday he said he “liked Kasich,” but he was confident he would win the Buckeye State.
Though a Kasich win in Ohio would probably not net the Ohio Governor the required number of delegates to get the nomination, it might deny Trump a majority of delegates when the time to nominate comes around, resulting in a brokered convention.
At this point, the GOP is scrambling to find any way to defeat Trump, who some are saying is transforming the GOP into an entirely different party.
However, U.S. Representative Chris Collins (R-New York) embraced that transformation in an interview on NPR yesterday, calling the GOP to unite behind Trump, saying he is expanding the GOP base.
It’s pretty clear that the GOP is experiencing a fissure as a result of Trump’s candidacy, and only time will tell which side will win out.
