Groups Push Kasich Against Obamacare Repeal

With nearly 1 million Ohioans potentially losing their healthcare after the inevitable repeal of Obamacare, groups are urging Gov. John Kasich to go against the grain and fight any congressional plan that repeals Obamacare without a replacement.

The Dispatch cites a letter that was sent to Kasich reading, “Repeal should not take place without a clear plan that makes care better for everyone. No Ohioan should lose coverage and access to care.”

The groups cite a report of estimates from the Urban Institute claiming that 964,000 less people in Ohio will be covered by health insurance in 2019 if the federal health care system, Medicaid expansion and various other provisions under Obamacare are discontinued.

Kasich isn’t responding, but instead drafting a statewide plan that he hopes can be utilizes if health care is given over to the states.

“We are in the process of developing our response and feel it would be premature to comment at this time,” said Connie Luck, spokeswoman for the Governor’s Office of Health Transformation.

The enrollment deadline for Obamacare was last night, Monday Dec. 19 and 4 million people have signed up nationally since enrollment began on Nov. 1st. 97,462 were Ohioans.
