A fair warning to parents and pet owners: if you leave your kid or your dog in the car on a hot day, it might get broken into.
And under a new law signed by Governor John Kasich, that’s totally fine.
The new “hot car” law allows Ohioans to break into parked vehicles cars to save children or pets in the case of an emergency, provided they check if the doors are unlocked first and they call 911.
It might sound like a slippery slope, but Good Samaritans have to prove that the situation is an emergency before breaking a window and they have to confirm with the police first.
And a tip for any aspiring interlopers: be sure to break the window away from the child or pet. Shattered glass hurts.
