Transgender bathroom bill could come to Ohio
An Ohio lawmaker advocated for the creation of a bill that mandates transgender people use the bathroom of their biological sex, rather than the one of their gender preference.
The statements come after Target issued its new bathroom policy, which allows customers to use the bathroom of their gender preference.
Rep. John Becker (R – Union Township) said sexual predators would abuse similar policies to enter women’s restrooms and locker rooms under the guise of being transgender.
He faced backlash from transgender rights advocates and from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle who want to avoid the sorts of boycotts that are occurring in North Carolina, such as Columbus’ unnecessary travel ban to the state.
Becker said he was OK with the old “don’t ask don’t tell” policy, and he’s also suggested mandating transgender individuals use unisex bathrooms when there is one available.
