Armed man fatally shot by Columbus police

Police are investigating an incident that left a Columbus man dead after he allegedly refused to drop a gun he was carrying and was shot by police.
Marese V. Collins, 23, threatened several people with his weapon and ignored repeated commands to drop his gun before police were forced to open fire, police said.
Police were alerted to the incident when they received reports of an armed man threatening others. After being told that the man fled in a black SUV, police followed a matching vehicle before the driver stopped and ran.
Collins was contained behind a house when the shooting occurred at about 12:30 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:46 a.m.
