Minerva Monkey continues to prowl northeast Columbus

Minerva Monkey continues to prowl northeast Columbus

The Minerva Monkey was spotted again late Monday morning, continuing to confound authorities.

This morning’s sighting was its first appearance since it was seen on Thursday of last week by Minerva Park Police Chief Kim Nuesse, an occurrence made even stranger by the fact that no exotic animal licenses for monkeys exist in Minerva Park.

In spite of traps set for the animal (bananas, anyone?), it has eluded capture.

Notably, Chinese New Year was today, and 2016 is–you guessed it–the year of the monkey. Coincidence? I think not.

If you see the monkey, do not approach. Instead call police at 614-525-3333.

It’s been an interesting morning in the village of Minerva Park.

Minerva Park Police Chief Kim Nuesse was on a routine patrol when she spotted a howler monkey sitting on a fence, eating something.

“The howler part has not been confirmed, but we know it’s a monkey,” Nuesse said.

A Facebook post by the Miverva Park Police Dept. read, “Do not approach. These animals are afraid of people, but can be territorial.”

Nuesse said that she expects the monkey to turn up soon thanks to the cold weather.

Expect updates on this developing story. Hopefully good updates.
