A routine gas station stop escalated to violence when an on-duty Columbus police officer stumbled upon a robbery in-progress.
The Columbus Police Sergeant had just stopped at the Speedway near Gender and Brice Road when he saw an armed, masked man exiting the store with a bag in his hand.
The officer fired at the suspect, who fled on foot, hopping a fence to be picked up in a getaway car on Brice Road.
Columbus Police declined to say whether or not the suspect fired at the officer.
Cigarettes scattered across the parking lot from the robber’s discarded bag, and Columbus Police declined to say whether or not the suspect was hit by shots.
