Franklin County Dog Shelter Issues Distemper Warning for Dogs
The Franklin County Dog Shelter has announced a precautionary warning after a single dog tested positive for canine distemper on Friday.
To stop the spread of the highly infectious disease to other dogs in the facility they have quarantined some of their dogs to monitor for signs of any illness.
Franklin County Dog Shelter has said that dogs available for adoption will be remain up for adoption as those dogs have been previously vaccinated and have a lower risk for exposure.
New dogs with no previous vaccinations are at a greater risk, according to FOX28.
Canine distemper is transmitted via the air and affects the breathing, spinal cords and brains of infected dogs. It is highly contagious to susceptible dogs and can be deadly, but is not dangerous to people.
