6/30/16: Look out: Nitrate advisory released for Columbus tap water
The Columbus Division of Water has released a nitrate advisory for people who receive water from the Dublin Road Water Plant.
Parents are advised not to give tap water to infants below the age of six months or use it to make baby formula, and women who are over 30 weeks pregnant are advised not to drink it.
The maximum ppm (parts per million) considered safe for nitrates in water is 10 ppm, and the Dublin Road Water Plant tested at 10.5 ppm/
Instead, buy bottled water. Running tap water through carbon filters (like Brita filters) does not remove nitrates.
DO NOT boil the water. Boiling water increases the concentration of nitrates.
Nitrates enter water systems via fertilizer runoff and can cause serious health issues for babies and pregnant women. Sensitive parties are strongly encouraged to find an alternate source of drinking water.
