New tiger cubs debut at Columbus Zoo today!

The Columbus Zoo’s Asia Quest region is set to receive some new inhabitants today, as three Amur tiger cubs make their public debut!

Daily viewing hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., as conditions allow.

Two months ago, news hit that the cubs’ mother, Irisa, gave birth. Since then, Metis (male), Callisto (female) and Elara (female) have been growing up with their mother behind the scenes. Now they’re finally strong enough to be in the public eye!

The cubs are named after the moons of Jupiter, since their father’s name is Jupiter.

Amur tigers, once known as Siberian tigers, are one of the world’s most endangered species, with fewer than 400 individuals thought to be left in the wild. Humans are thought to be directly responsible for around 75 to 85 percent of tiger deaths.

About 150 tigers live in zoos around the country, so enjoy the rare opportunity to see these adorable cubs at the Columbus Zoo!
