Ohio girl blessed by Pope Francis
A 5-year-old girl with a rare genetic condition that is slowly robbing her of her sight had her eyes blessed by Pope Francis during her family’s visit to Rome.
Lizzy Meyers of Lexington, Ohio was visited by the Pope after Wednesday’s general audience, where he hugged her, talk with her and laid his hands on her eyes.
She suffers from Usher’s Syndrome, which will gradually take away her sight and hearing.
Right now her parents are on a mission to show her places and things around the world while she still has the opportunity. First came the Warren Rupp observatory near her home, and now Rome.
Her parents said Lizzy was “awestruck” during her visit with the Pope, and in return for his blessing she gave him a prized meteorite chunk of hers.
