An Ohio police officer was fired following a Fairborn police investigation into a comment about Columbus activist Marshawn McCarrel the department said was inappropriate.
Two days after McCarrel fatally shot himself on the steps of the Ohio Statehouse, Lee Cyr posted a comment on the Ohio Politics Facebook page that read, “Love a happy ending.”
McCarrel identified as a member of the Black Lives Matter movement, and locally protested high-profile police shootings.
Cyr was off-duty when he made the comment, and the department said it was a violation of social media policy. He was on the force for 22 years.
